RMJM took part in Empowering Architects earlier this month, an exclusive event for AIA Members. The event, held at the Mirage Project Point in the Dubai Design District on July 12th, featured both a panel discussion and one-on-one conversations between audience members and panelists. RMJM was represented by Arif Mehmood, an architect with over 30 years professional experience in overseeing numerous award-winning designs.

The event, an increasingly important one in the region, was by all accounts a huge success and proved to be enlightening for all involved. Arif commented: “It was an interesting evening, with the panel comprising of highly experienced and passionate individuals, with the audience of equally diverse background, experience, and age. The discussions revolved around how best to balance a Client’s aspirations with the challenges of time, cost and understanding the nuances of local culture, materials, and climate.

“Whilst the architect’s journey seems a lonely one, as it embraces both the objective and the abstract, it was recognized that the structure provided by the likes of the AIA and the RIBA provided an excellent framework for managing the business of architecture in a fair an equitable manner anywhere in the world.

“Empowering Architects series is an excellent vehicle for sharing knowledge and for some crystal ball gazing to help lay out the path for the future practitioners of this allusive profession, particularly in a world that is becoming smaller and smaller by the day.”
