Overview

RMJM has transformed the previous dense complex of laboratories and pharmaceutical pilot plants to a prestigious landscaped headquarters and administrative facility, occupied by key departments of Glaxo Wellcome plc and GW Research and Development Ltd.

The development plan included the decommissioning and demolition of redundant buildings, followed by a redevelopment and refurbishment programme for the creation of new offices and car parking.

The landscape scheme was based on a series of open spaces linked by access routes focused around a central green spine.

By introducing these green spaces and improving the quality of the building stock, the project succeeded in radically changing the identity of the 21 acre campus: the overcrowded, high density production site is now an open, attractive and integrated business community campus, capable of expansion as the company consolidates its presence in Greenford.

The project won the British Council for Offices Award 1998 “Out of Town Workplace”.
