Phase 1 of the new Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre opened in February 2007 to host IDEX 2007, one of the world’s largest defence exhibitions.
From design to construction the project was completed within just 16 months. It provided 28,000 sqm of gross exhibition space and a total GFA of 90,000 sqm. Phase 1 was designed to link with the existing Heritage Grandstand in such as way as to make this structure both an integral part of the new development, but also functional in its own right.
Phase 2 of the development saw the addition of five exhibition halls linked by a public concourse complete with front and back of house areas.
The state-of-the-art multi purpose exhibition complex offers 55,000 sqm of interconnecting hall space, including a 3,168 sqm atrium, 18,000 sqm of U-shaped concourse, 2,000 sqm of food courts and a sizeable multi-storey car-park.
The halls, constructed in a U-shape, are fully linked with operable walls that can be retracted to provide a continuous space. Hall dividers can be partially removed to allow a show to expand to the concourse area. Included in the Phase 2 development is the design and construction of the Aloft Hotel, 408 bedroom, 800 guest wedding hall.
The functional design of the ADNEC Exhibition Centre has been pivotal to the success of the venue. Since opening,it has attracted over one million visitors a year, and has contributed to the growth of Abu Dhabi’s exhibition industry by over 25%.
