Overview

The location of this project is on a highly strategic and unique plot of land within the overall Jabal Omar development site immediately opposite the Haram Mosque (i.e. the Sacred Mosque containing the Kaaba) in the holy city of Makkah, Saudi Arabia.

The Jabal Omar development itself is a project that aims to provide visitors to the Haram Mosque much needed 1st class hospitality facilities – with requisite support facilities – to facilitate a comfortable, fulfilling and memorable visit to the Holy City of Makkah. The project was yet another successful collaboration between RMJM’s Istanbul and Dubai studios.

The client commissioned a master plan intervention on the zones Phase 5, 6 & N4. The objectives of this master plan intervention were to, increase SU Area; provide better sightlines towards the Haram Mosque ; Improve the public realm experience of JODC guests; and improve the pedestrian connection between Jabal Omar and the Haram Mosque. JODC’s objective for this project is to create a new architectural vision for the central part of the Jabal Omar site with emphasis on the Zone N4 facility as the JODC project landmark facility; outstanding in architectural quality, unique to the Middle East yet in complete harmony with the context of this sensitive holy site.
