RMJM’s work on the Evolution Tower in Moscow has been recognised at the Emporis Skyscraper Awards, the world’s most renowned architecture prize for skyscrapers. The award, given by Emporis, the international provider of building data, is now into its 16th year and represents the “best new skyscraper for design and functionality”. To qualify, nominated buildings must have been completed during the year of the award, and must be at least 100 meters in height.

Evolution Tower has received widespread praise for its iconic twisting design that has transformed the Moscow skyline since its unveiling in 2016. The sensual, organic form of the building, which was designed by RMJM in collaboration with Scottish artist Karen Forbes, mixes passion and drama with a conventional square footprint ideal for ‘Moscow-City’, a new central business district. The futuristic design of the building incorporates a dramatic twist which sees each floor twist a full three degrees compared to the preceding floor.

The second place prize represents yet more encouraging news for RMJM after the firm also earned recent recognition at the Cityscape Global Awards, the CID Awards and the Identity Design Awards. RMJM also won a Green Excellency Award last week. The news also reaffirms RMJM’s growing profile in Russia after they were appointed to design the interior of the new Terminal B in the Northern Terminal Complex of Sheremetyevo Airport in Russia last week.
