RMJM celebrated the official opening of its new office in d3, Dubai Design District, this week with an ‘open office’ event attended by RMJM staff, officials and leading business people from the local community. The state of the art studio, designed by RMJM’s interior design team, is a vibrant workspace that inspires creativity.
The event also provided an opportunity to celebrate RMJM’s 60th anniversary. The company was formed in 1956 by Robert Matthew and Stirrat Johnson-Marshall, with offices in Edinburgh and London and quickly established a reputation for elegant modernist designs in the education, residential, healthcare and aviation sectors, in particular, winning numerous awards. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, RMJM’s international work included masterplanning and design work in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Libya, Pakistan and Nigeria.
RMJM established its first Dubai office in 1971 and undertook early commissions for the Engineer’s Office and Dubai Civil Aviation. With many notable projects in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi, RMJM is considered to be one of the leading architectural practices in the country. The office is currently engaged in a number of significant new developments including the recently announced Gate Avenue at DIFC; the Innovation Hub, a business park for Tecom Investments, and continuing a strong tradition in hospitality with several 4 and 5-star hotels. From its new office in the heart of Dubai’s creative district, RMJM is well positioned to grow its business and to continue to develop significant projects that will add to the urban fabric of the UAE.
