Following an international design competition, China Merchants Securities awarded RMJM the design of their new landmark headquarters towers in Shenzhen. The pair of towers are located on a prominent site in the Futian business area and marks the gateway to a new financial district.
The shape of the towers defines an inner sheltered courtyard which connects surrounding public spaces and parks. The trading hall building, with its elevated spherical shape and distinct metal cladding is a modern interpretation of an ancient Chinese urn and forms the centre of the courtyard.
The open office layout in the towers encourages natural daylight and ventilation in order to provide a comfortable and productive grade-A work environment whilst improving energy efficiency. The vertical glazed gap between the towers serves as transparent lobby space with glazed panorama lifts commanding dramatic views of the city.
