West Lothian Schools, Scotland

This £24million project involved the strategic reorganisation and refurbishment of three primary and three secondary schools. The aim was to increase the capacity of each school and to achieve this without disrupting day-to-day school activities.

For each of the schools RMJM designed classrooms, sports halls, libraries and dedicated IT suites. The project also included the complete refurbishment of many existing sports facilities, assembly halls and swimming pools and the replacement of all building services.

One of the schools, Lowport Primary School in Linlithgow, is a Grade B listed building and so required a uniquely sensitive approach, for which RMJM won a Civic Trust Commendation in 2009.
