New Scottish Parliament, Scotland

RMJM, in a unique partnership with Enric Miralles Benedetta Tagliabue, was selected to design the new Scottish Parliament.

Whilst the design for the Parliament was required to reflect the principle of open government, the nature of its function clearly also demanded the discreet incorporation of a high level of security measures designed to counter terrorist threats, prevent criminal intrusions, as well as controlling access to non-public areas of the building.

In 2005 the New Scottish Parliament won the Stirling Prize, the Edinburgh Architecture Association 'Centenary Medal' and the Scottish Design Awards 'Best Publicly Funded Building' 'Architecture Grand Prix'.
