New Paltz Athletic and Recreation Centre, USA
RMJM was appointed by the State University of New York to develop a masterplan for a new athletic and recreation centre. The project was organised in five phases, the first phase of the 5,000 square metre athletic and recreation centre was the expansion and partial upgrade of the obsolete, 1960's gymnasium. This featured a 2-court performance gymnasium for basketball / volleyball with a seating capacity of 2,400; an elevated, naturally lit, 9-lap jogging track; a student entrance; and a series of new and expanded fitness spaces for exercise, dance, aerobics, weight lifting, judo/karate, yoga, and climbing wall.
The subsequent phases included an ice arena with Olympic-size ice surface, an aquatic centre with an NCAA-regulation pool, a renovation of the gymnasium building, and a permanent indoor tennis structure with six courts.
