Midlothian Schools, Scotland
RMJM designed three new primary schools for Midlothian Council. The schools range in size from a seven classroom school to a 21 classroom school and each includes nursery, sports and community facilities.
Each of these schools provides students and teachers with a flexible learning and teaching environment. All the classrooms have sliding walls which can be opened up to create larger open-plan communal spaces. The classes are clustered so that entire year groups can easily work together and a central 'internal street' serves as a focal point for each school.
RMJM's schools for Midlothian achieved 'very good' ratings under the BREEAM environmental assessment system.
