Lock Haven University Student Recreation Centre, USA
The RMJM team drew inspiration not only from the large programmatical elements but from the University's desire to create a landmark building related to the existing campus architecture. The University also required the facility to be designed to a modest construction budget. With these stipulations in mind, RMJM designed a building that is distinctive yet cohesive and spatially efficient.
The design solution divides the building into two portions: health & recreation spaces and support spaces. In total, the facility provides 3,800m² of space. The health and recreation portion includes a multi-purpose space with three basketball/volleyball/tennis courts. The facility also provides a fitness training room, an exercise/dance room, three racquetball courts, locker/shower facilities, an elevated running track and a rock-climbing wall.
