Coventry University Multi-storey Car park
Coventry University multi-storey car park is one of the direct outcomes of the campus masterplan which RMJM completed for the University in March 2008. The car park concrete frame is wrapped in an elegant screen of vertical stainless steel panels that creates a delicate and light appearance. The wrap unifies and gives equal importance to each face of the building. The rounded corners strengthen this concept and give the car park a welcoming character.
The wrap gets its unique rhythm by various spacings of the vertical panels that had to be perfectly aligned above each other. The spacing of the strips responds to daylighting and natural ventilation requirements and the solid areas provide the required fire safety.
Signage and way finding within the car park, which comprises 15 half levels, is organised by level and emphasised with a unique floor colour. This not only enhances interior wayfinding, but also creates an interesting colourful second skin of the building behind the uniform wrap.
