Commonwealth Village Masterplan, Scotland

RMJM supported Glasgow City Council's bid for the 2014 Commonwealth Games by creating the masterplan for the Athletes' Village.

The 40-hectare masterplan site is located in Glasgow's East End. The scheme aims to boost the regeneration of one of the city's most deprived areas. Maximizing the re-use of brownfield land, it will create a village accommodating over 7,000 athletes in more than 1,000 new permanent housing units. Facilities such as landscaped areas, an international zone, a transport hub and a hotel also form part of the masterplan.

10% of the village's energy will be generated by renewable energy sources on site, a minimum of 10% recycled material content will be used in the construction.

At the heart of the design solution is the legacy: how the site will develop after the Commonwealth Games. Additional units, community buildings, transport connections, local facilities and amenities and pedestrian flow will all be integrated into the solution.
