Central Park North, USA
Central Park North acts as a gateway into Harlem and its scale signals the building's role as a beacon in the community. Perhaps this project's greatest challenge was constructing a building in the architecturally prescriptive city of New York. Architects placed extensive investigation and design emphasis on understanding and transforming the building resolutions to create an envelope that satisfies certain civic obligations while simultaneously proposing a design attitude centred on the project's location as a gateway into Harlem.
This residential tower contains approximately 45 apartments over a commercial ground floor and parking. The plan carefully integrates the design into the surrounding fabric of the community. By existing in a larger scale, the beacon-like tower heralds the community across the greater cityscape.
