Calais Burn, Scotland
The Calais Burn project was led by a steering group that includes local community representatives. The project involved the preparation of a design masterplan and feasibility report for environmental improvements to a linear park and river corridor in Dunfermline, Fife. The project addresses public access, visitor facilities and enhanced biodiversity throughout the parkland area including proposals for restoring access to the waterway and reflecting the heritage of the area through planting and installations.
STRATA recognise that creating opportunities for community involvement and fostering community ownership is crucial to the success of such a public project. Community consultation has taken the form of public exhibitions with feedback opportunities, questionnaire distribution and the involvement with local schools and community groups in projects relating to the Calais Burn corridor.
