Beijing 2008 Olympic Fencing Venue, China
RMJM designed the 270,000m² Beijing International Convention Centre within the Beijing Olympic Park. The Beijing 2008 Olympic Fencing Venue was accommodated within this building complex. This was the first time a competition sports venue had been amalgamated with an Olympic Media facility. This resulted in a highly complex and challenging design exercise to ensure the smooth daily operations of both the media and sporting activities.
The fencing competition took place over 10 days, with a total of 30 medals awarded within the venue. The venue had a spectator capacity of 6,000 people and was also used for wheelchair fencing and boccia during the 2008 Paralympic Games.
