Located in London’s docklands near Canary Wharf, London City Airport is renowned for rapid business passenger processing through the terminal. The commission was for the interim development to accommodate up to 6 million passengers per annum. Concepts were required that respected the airport’s reputation, whilst increasing capacity and redressing imbalances in facilities and processes that existed in certain areas.
A key aspect for the project was operational continuity and a solution for phasing had to be developed that accommodated key processes, specifically security control and baggage handling, to facilitate the redevelopment of the existing facilities to create additional departure lounge area, and increased retail and baggage reclaim capacity.
