RMJM's Goucher College Athenaeum wins green building award

29Jan2010 - Goucher College's new Athenaeum has received the 2009 Accomplishment Award from the Maryland Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council. The award recognizes the Athenaeum for the innovative use of green strategies, its attention to the needs of students and faculty, and its impact on the local community.

Designed by international architecture firm RMJM, the 103,000 square-foot, four-story Athenaeum is the new sustainable flagship building on campus. The Athenaeum, which opened in September 2009, has 24/7 access and features a technologically superior library; a spacious open forum for performances, public discussions, and other events; a café, art gallery; a center for community service and multicultural affairs programming, radio station, exercise studio; and spaces for conversation, and quiet reflection and relaxation.
